The 25km stretch of coast directly north of Cairns is dotted by six eclectic, beachside residential communities, each offering a unique holiday experience.
Machans Beach lies about 10 minutes north of the Cairns CBD, and features various accommodation types, including holiday homes. There hasn't been much of a "beach" at Machans since the construction of an erosion-inhibiting retaining wall, but the community is popular with local artists and has a quirky, inviting vibe.
Holloways Beach is situated about 12 minutes north of the Cairns CBD, and features a small grocery store, hotel and resort acommodation, camping and caravan parks and holiday homes.
Yorkeys Knob lies about 20 minutes north of the Cairns CBD, and features several restaurants, a marina and boat club, post office, a grocery store, hotel and resort accommodation, bed and breakfast accommodation, holiday homes and camping and caravan parks.
Trinity Beach lies about 25 minutes north of Cairns CBD and is one of the region's more developed residential beaches. The community has a pharmacy, an IGA supermarket, butchers, newsagent and several quality restaurants. Trinity Beach is home to most types of accommodation, including hotels and resorts, bed and breakfasts, holiday homes and self-contained apartments.
Kewarra Beach is situated about 27 minutes drive north of Cairns CBD, and is mostly residential. The beach is excellent, however, and the suburb has a number of holiday homes<.
Clifton Beach is another mostly residential beach, located about 30 minute north of Cairns CBD and immediately south of the spa mecca of Palm Cove. It is home to a small shopping centre with a supermarket and specialty stores, and a number of restaurants. Clifton Beach features holiday homes, self-contained apartments and bed and breakfast accommodation.
