Oh baby, our home on hold
SHANI and Damien Gobus have had to put their house hunting on hold.
Interest rate rises, increasing house prices and now a baby on the way have meant the Kewarra couple will have to bide their time before returning to the For Sale signs.
Shani, 25, who works in administration at Trinity Motors and Damien, also 25 and an apprentice diesel mechanic, have been looking for "the right house", preferably in the northern suburbs, for two years.
They have been building their deposit but still don’t seem to be getting any closer to getting into the market - a common scenario for many young couples.
"It's getting harder to keep our deposit in line and now with our first baby on the way, we have had to put things on hold," Shani said.
She said it was "scary the way prices keep going up".
"We are just going to hold onto our deposit until things settle down."
Home on hold: Shani and Damien Gobus have started hunting for baby furniture instead of a house as rising prices and interest rates put their home ownership dreams on hold.
