Rovers, Norths likely final

Yesterday's persistent rain may have washed away any hope Innisfail had of making Monday's Cricket Far North one-day final.

Instead, Rovers and Norths look set to compete in the showpiece at Cazalys.

The pair was meant to meet today at Griffiths Park No. 2 in a last-round blockbuster. The script read a Rovers win and they would meet Innisfail in Monday’s final.

The alternate ending, a Norths win, meant Rovers and Norths would again meet each other on Monday.

But the ink on the script never had time to dry with both Rovers and Norths captains sceptical yesterday afternoon as to whether today’s match would go ahead.

If it is washed out, both Rovers and Norths would be awarded three competition points, moving them to 24 and a share of the outright lead.

Innisfail would then have been left stranded with 21 points, a bye today meaning they can progress no further.

The rain has already caused one cancellation to this weekend’s fixtures, the mid-table clash between United and Mulgrave at Cazalys washed out.

In the other scheduled match, Atherton were due to meet Barron River at Loder Park.
