Taste of the adult
WICKEDLY Delicious opened under a hailstorm of controversy amid fears it would erode Atherton's moral fibre but it seems the town was ready for an adult shop.
Community leaders spoke out against the store and while Atherton Shire Council was powerless to stop it opening, it did condemn the shop along with the town’s religious leaders.
But curiosity has got the better of locals.
Shop owner Tia Ball told The Cairns Post yesterday trade had been slow to begin with but two weeks in, things had picked up and more stock was on order.
So far, its biggest sellers have been movies, magazines and toys.
"A few people came in last week who said they had never been in an adult shop before and they made the comment they would be back," she said.
Mrs Ball said there was nothing offensive or downgrading about the shop and it was intended to spice up relationships.
She said it was possible to have a loving relationship with spice added.
"It's an adult shop not a sex shop, sex shops sell sex and we do not sell sex," she said.
"It's all about building positive relationships."
Mrs Ball urged the business' early critics to visit the store and take comfort in the measures in place to stop children from shopping there.
Come on in: Wickedly Delicious owner Tia Ball says more and more people are coming into the adult shop at Atherton.
