IT'S not the kind of hazard you normally expect on a golf course.

A crocodile has taken up residence at a Townsville golf club and, while it doesn't pose a threat to players, steps are being taken to get rid of it.

The metre-long freshwater crocodile moved into the lake on the 14th hole at the Willows Golf Club, at Kirwan, near Townsville, during this month's flooding rains.

The Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service is expected to remove and relocate the reptile today.

Club owner Don Matheson said it was common to spot crocodiles on the course after heavy rains.

"With the compression of habitat they have got at the moment, well, we're 160 acres of open space."
