New flights for airline
CAIRNS-based Regional Pacific Airlines has just received approval to operate 10 new weekly flights from Cairns and Townsville to Mt Isa.
The new routes - Cairns-Mt Isa and Townsville-Mt Isa will operate five times a week each starting from February 25.
The Cairns-Mt Isa flights will leave at 4pm on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, returning from Mt Isa at 4pm Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.
The Townsville-Mt Isa flights depart 10.30am Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, returning 8am Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.
The new routes will be serviced by the 30 seat Embraer 120 turboprop aircraft.
Regional Pacific's country manager Anthony Sandford said gaining approval for the routes enabled the company to fill an important gap in the market.
"Our airline is expanding and we have a strong community focus which will see us develop initiatives including community involvement and sponsorship in both Mt Isa and Townsville and also increase our level of activity here in Cairns," Mr Sandford said.
Regional Pacific Airlines is part of the Regional Aviation Group.
The company also announced the appointment of Don Madigan as the airline's Mt Isa-based manager.
