Party out of control
POLICE dogs were used to disperse hundreds of drunken underage revellers, some as young as 12, from a 16th birthday party out of control in Bayview Heights.
More than eight police cars and a dog squad were dispatched to Peridot St as more than 500 drunken gatecrashers poured out on to the street and into neighbours' gardens on Saturday night.
They were responding to numerous calls from distressed neighbours.
One teenager who attended the party said the it turned into chaos after the gatecrashers turned up about 11pm.
"The street was just full of cars. You couldn’t move," he said. "We got about 500 people."
The Bauer family, who hosted the party for their 16-year-old son, said they had taken extra precautions, informing the police about the party and issuing only 200 wrist bands to invited guests.
Mother Debbie Bauer said the trouble did not start until police forced the gatecrashers outside.
"When the police threw them out, that’s when there was a riot," she told The Cairns Post.
"There was not one fight here, no trouble at all. We were expecting about 200, but then mates of mates arrived and people were texting and people just started arriving."
The door of a van was allegedly kicked in, while a gardener had his lawnmower and trimmer stolen off his trailer.
"There was a large group of kids converging on the house and neighbours have contacted the police," Sen-Constable Cary Coolican said.
Police patrols, backed up by a police dog squad cleared the drunken teens out of the party and funnelled them down the street.
Boozed up: Hundreds of drunken gatecrashers upset neighbours at Ben Bauer's 16th birthday party.
