Ewok needs a home
EWOK looks a little worse for wear but Cairns City Council animal management officer Mandi Althaus hopes he can be nursed back to health and find a new place to call home.
The mangy staffy was found by a concerned resident at Edmonton on Sunday and picked up by the pound.
"He's got a fair bit of mange on most of his body and mangy dogs tend to be skinny and malnourished," Ms Althaus said.
"YAPS and RSPCA don't have room for him at the moment so we said we'd take care of him until they free up a pen for him."
Ms Althaus said staff at the pound were treating him by giving him special baths every day.
"The mange is only going to get worse if he doesn`t get treatment," she said.
As for his temperament, Ms Althaus said Ewok was "a bit of a sook" and just wanted to be near people.
"He's a bit of a talker too, he'll try to have a chat with you."
Ewok was one of many dogs picked up by the pound in the past couple of weeks, with recent storms resulting in runaways.
"If you know it's going to be stormy, tie the dog up for the day or take them to a relative," Ms Althaus said.
"Also make sure they`ve got a good form of ID on them with up to date contact details."
