Party boy's cash bonus
TEEN revellers at an out-of-control Bayview Heights party were charged a $5 entry fee, with one parent saying kids are treating house parties like nightclubs.
A number of people who contacted The Weekend Post said the hosts of Ben Bauer's 16th birthday party charged a $5 entry fee to all those who were not on Saturday night’s invitation list.
Maria of City View said her 16-year-old son and his friends were not invited, but each paid $5 to enter the party.
"The mentality of these kids now is to just go and find a party and pay to get in," Maria said. "The kids in this generation think that's how you party.
"They'll just jump in a taxi and move on to the next one if they don't like it."
Another reader who contacted The Weekend Post said she was charged $5 with people on the door "more than welcoming once their entry fee was received".
"This so-called out of control party would probably not have been the worst thing for the party holders," the reader said.
"I would assume if the 500 or so alleged teenagers who attended paid $5 then that would work out to be quite a nice profit."
Ben Bauer’' party gained national notoriety this week, with the teen appearing on the Nine Network's A Current Affair. His MySpace page has since been flooded with comments about the media attention.
Ben and his parents refused repeated requests for comment from The Cairns Post this week.
A spokeswoman from Liquor Licensing said as long as the hosts of the party were not selling or supplying alcohol they were not in breach of the Liquor Act.
"If it was reported to us that the hosts were selling liquor at the party then we would investigate the matter," she said.
