Post's website proves a hit

THE Cairns Post's website cairns.com.au has had a massive 756,612 hits by users in Australia and from around the world since its official launch on February 2.

Our top stories, including this week's dog-eating python, have been picked up by 18 national and 11 international websites highlighting the global reach of cairns.com.au.

"Our stories, picture galleries and rich content on our region have already attracted a global audience", said marketing and digital director Elizabeth McDonald.

Animal stories and pictures have proved to be the biggest drawcards, while bookings to local wildlife parks are the site’s most popular activities, according to online analysis tool HBX.

The Cairns Post editor Mark Alexander said the site's most viewed items included the dog-eating python photo gallery, which had more than 71,790 page views in just two days.

"Cairns.com.au also linked our python video to You Tube, making it the 13th most watched video on the site, being viewed 193,958 times with more than 90 comments."

Mr Alexander said cairns.com.au was the key component of The Cairns Post's commitment to being a true multi-media company.

The Operation Leap Frog photo competition has also been a huge success, with more than 204 entries and 16,000 page views.

Photo galleries continue to draw users, with 4980 page views for our Big Wet pictures and 4773 views of our Bikini Babes.
