It's toga party time!

Friday, February 29, 2008

DONNING a toga in O-Week is almost mandatory for most uni students, but this year James Cook University's Student Association hoped to put on the biggest toga party yet.

The Ultimate Toga Party was held at the Cairns campus' Stinger Bar last night with organisers hoping for more than 100 revellers.

"We've got a new DJ system, a new DJ and an events co-ordinator this year," JCU student president Billy Colless said.

"This year is different from previous years because we’re running a bit of a business.

"We're attacking the student market better."

Mr Colless said so far, O-Week had been "absolutely great".

"I haven't counted how many new (Student Association) members we've got, but at the moment it's looking good," he said.

"You can judge a student president by how good their O-Week is, so hopefully mine goes down well."

Mr Colless said O-Week was a chance for students to ease into uni without the pressure of assignments or exams, and a chance to build social networks.
