Given this growth scenario, I consider planning and infrastructure provision issues to be the most significant challenge facing the newly amalgamated Cairns Regional Council. I would work FULL-TIME to deliver best possible outcomes for the community.
My priorities are:
* Properly planned and managed development that benefits the existing community;
* Hillslope protection to preserve the visual amenity of the area and to minimise sediment erosion and downslope flooding;
* Sporting and recreational infrastructure + youth support programs;
* Improving safety by providing more lighting, traffic calming measures and footpaths for busy thoroughfares such as Mt Peter Road and Jubilee Street near Hambledon State School;
* Better arterial access to Cairns CBD through promoting the use of public transport, providing a high-speed cycleway and reducing vehicular traffic by creating local employment opportunities;
* Upgrading Edmonton library;
* More landscaping and continuing with the Sugarworld Gardens upgrade; and
* Actively encouraging sustainable development via best practice in water catchment and waste management.
