Rob Pyne: Cairns Division 3
Statement: I am certainly a local, being born in Gordonvale and raised in Edmonton.
I worked in various professions after leaving school, including the Public Trustee, where I worked until breaking my neck in an accident in 1991, becoming a quadriplegic.
I then decided to study so I could re-enter the work force, completing a BA in History and Politics at JCU and a Law Degree at QUT.
Affiliation: Independent.
I gained employment at JCU in 2000 where I worked for 7 years, resigning recently to campaign full-time for Council and hopefully to work full-time as the Division 3 councillor.
I have also volunteered for several community bodies, including:
- President of JCU Cairns Student Assoc;
- Director of the Australian Quadriplegic Association;
- Bentley Park P & C; and
- Forest Gardens Neighbourhood Watch.
My passions include stopping hillside development and improving our footpaths and bikeways.
