Adrian 'Syd' Walker: Tablelands Division 8
Statement: Syd Walker is a community activist who lives near Kuranda and has worked hard in recent years to oppose inappropriate, poorly planned development in the Kuranda area.
Affiliation: Independent
He has a long-standing interest in climate change and is keen to help steer the Tablelands towards early adoption of strong mitigation measures (with Federal/State Government support), which will bring a lot of new jobs.
Syd is a strong advocate for genuinely sustainable development. He has a passion for modern, state-of-art rail technology and advocates a new rail service for passengers and freight between Mareeba and Cairns – ultimately covering more of the tablelands and coastal plain.
Syd wants to represent the electorate in a much more consultative way than has been the previous done. He believes in open government and a fair go for all sectors of the community.
He relishes the challenge of making the new council a leader in enlightened local government.
