Cairns 1st has pet project
IT'S not just election talk, Cairns 1st team members have made their dogs do the walk and get microchipped and desexed for the cause.
Division 7 candidate Diane Forsyth's shaggy dog, Ziggy, was one of the obliging pets to front up for a free microchip implant on Saturday as part of a special offer by her Division 8 team-mate and local vet Paul Matthews.
The exercise in responsible pet ownership was to promote the team’s latest pledge to introduce free registration fees in the first year for all newly registered dogs and cats that are microchipped and desexed.
"All Cairns 1st’s dogs and cats are now desexed and microchipped - we're serious about this," said Dr Matthews.
Dr Matthews said a Cairns 1st council would reopen talks about making cat registration compulsory.
