ROB Pyne may be confined to a wheelchair, but the newly-elected Division 3 councillor says he will have full access to the corridors of power.
My Pyne toured the Cairns Regional Council building with his wife, Jenny, yesterday, inspecting it for any wheelchair access problems.
"I actually think this building is exceptional," Mr Pyne said.
"They will need to make a small adjustment in the office and cut a bit of timber out in the chamber.
"Luckily I don’t have to occupy the mayor’s seat, because getting up those stairs could be a problem."
Mr Pyne said he had a new wheelchair on the way, which would enable him to get around his electorate more easily.
"I really do want to use it to get around the suburbs to where people live," he said.
"I think the way you can get out of touch is if you spend too much time in here and not enough out there."
Mr Pyne and other elected councillors are expected to be sworn in on April 3.
