Skyhigh SMS
SENDING and receiving SMS messages and emails soon will be common on Qantas domestic flights.
It follows a trial, using one Boeing 767 fitted with the latest technology, from April until January.
"The evaluation of this new technology was a great success," Qantas executive general manager John Borghetti said yesterday.
"An overwhelming majority of passengers involved in the evaluation indicated they wanted access to in-flight connectivity on an ongoing basis."
The technology will be fitted later this year to a number of Boeing 767 and Airbus A330 jets.
Mr Borghetti said it allowed mobile phones and portable devices to be used safely without interference to aircraft systems or the ground communication network.
