A time and place
Cairns Regional Gallery is proud to present a photographic exhibition by Keith McMillan %u2013 one of Britain's most recognised and prolific socialite photographers.
Keith McMillan: A time and a place documents the cultural shift which began in the 1960’s in Britain, where, with 40% of the population aged under 25 years, the country resonated with liberalisation of laws, anti-establishment behaviour and new found prosperity.
In an eventful life which commenced as a ballet dancer, included a period of armed service, and culminated in working in the circle of some of Europe’s great politicians, artists and performers, McMillan’s work represents three fascinating decades of change in Britain.
Well known identities such as John Cleese and Rudolf Nureyev, power brokers Baroness Margaret Thatcher and Sir Edward Heath, arts practitioners Man Ray and David Hockey are some of the identities featured in the exhibition.“Today’s photographers have a great advantage with the technology of modern times, and to me it looks like there are no boundaries”, reflects Keith.
“However, photography is never static and hopefully my images can be appreciated as fine examples from a different time and a different place”.
Keith McMillan: A time and a place, an exhibition of over 60 black and white photographs from the McMillan career which encompassed 58 years of work, will be officially launched by artist Bob Marchant, on Friday, March 28 at 6.30pm, following the artist talk.
Keith McMillan: A time and a place will remain on display at Cairns Regional Gallery until May 4.
