Carving it up: Pete Oste shows his skills at the Esplanade skate facility.
Cairns Esplanade plays host to one of the largest and best equipped skate facilities in the country.
The park was recently redeveloped as part of Cairns' $44 million dollar Cairns Esplanade redevelopment, firmly establishing the facility as a favourite of skaters and bike riders from both Australia and internationally.
The Cairns skate park features a number of obstacles, ranging from traditional bowls and ramps to innovative "street" style obstacles unseen in many public skate facilities.
The park regularly sees visits from pro-riders and has featured in magazines, skate videos and websites from around the world.
This weekend, the park plays host to the Y Wars Youth Week Autumn Rollersport titles, a yearly competition that is recognised around Australia as North Queensland's premier skate event.
The competition runs from 12-7pm on Sunday, and features a range of divisions and skill levels.
Also featuring this weekend is "Stomp The Nard", a free breakdancing display featuring 365 crew (who featured on this year's So You Think You Can Dance).
The Cairns Esplanade Skate Park is around 15 minutes walk (or skate!) from the Cairns CBD, directly across from the Cairns Base Hospital.
Entry to the park and both events is free.
