Monster cruises to luxury
THIS hulking croc may soon trade the rugged ind-ividualism of life on the Cape York for a cosseted farm retirement surrounded by adoring lady-crocs.
The colossal crocodile, trapped by wildlife officers on the banks of Cowal Creek near the tiny Cape York township of Injinoo, is estimated to weigh 500kg and to be 4.5m long.
As he cruises toward a Cairns Environmental Protection Agency compound, securely penned aboard the Sea Swift vessel the Newcastle Bay, his spectacular measurements have attracted the admiring attention of Mareeba croc farmer Peter Fisher.
Were the mammoth reptile to end up at the Melaleuca Crocodile Farm managed by Mr Fisher, he would spend his days dining on chicken, fish, pig-meat and enjoying the attentions of up to four female crocs at a time.
"It's a life of luxury," Mr Fisher said.
Mr Fisher said he had contacted the Environmantal Protection Agency to exp-ress interest in the croc.
