Memorable league moment
Jill Sorenson will never forget the 2005 State of Origin series.
Sorenson's grandson, Innisfail product Ty Williams, scored a try as the Maroons beat New South Wales 24-20 at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane.
The same day, Williams' mother Cheryl Williams, moved from Atherton Hospital to her Innisfail home after undergoing a mastectomy two days earlier as part of treatment for breast cancer.
"I took the responsibility of bringing her home so she could watch it on TV," Sorenson said.
"When he scored that try we all screamed out. His actions spoke louder than the 52,484 crowd in support of his mother's recovery."
Sorenson said the NRL had played an important role in supporting breast cancer awareness through fundraising and community campaigns.
