The Cairns Botannical Gardens at Edge Hill are one of the city's most popular attractions, featuring a broad range of flora and fauna from around Far North Queensland.

The gardens were established in 1886, making it one of the oldest Cairns botanical gardens in the country.

The lush displays are immaculately maintained and feature a range of different themed sections covering all aspects of Far North Queensland rainforest plant life.

The gardens have been made home by a wide array of local Cairns wildlife, including birds, frogs, small animals and insects like this colourful dragonfly (pictured).

They also feature a cafe, information centre and Friend's of the Botanical Gardens Society regularly hosts plant sales to help maintain the uptake of the gardens.

Directly across the road from the gardens is another parkland, Centenary Lakes.

The Lakes features a boardwalk that is popular with joggers and fitness fanatics and is also a fantastic place to share a picnic lunch.

The Mount Whitfield Conservation Park, featuring the famous Red and Blue Arrow tracks is also a short walk from the Cairns Botanical Gardens.

Located just off the Captain Cook Highway on Collins Avenue, the gardens are easily accessed by public transport from Cairns City.
