FARM girl Hannah Bolton had never modelled before last weekend, let alone strutted her stuff on a catwalk.

So the Tully teenager's look of utter surprise was the genuine article when she won a modelling contract and a finals berth at Townsville's NOMA $100,000 Opal Fashion Bash.

Hannah will fly to Brisbane next school holidays for professional training with modelling agency Tamblyn, and will contest the agency’s statewide young model discovery quest finals.

"It's amazing. I've always wanted to be a model, but there were so many girls there I didn't think I'd win," the excited Tully State High School student said of her overall win in the 13-15 year-old category.

The Cairns region showcased a bevy of beauties, with Cairns State High’s Rhylie Austin winning the 16-19 years surf swimwear category and schoolmate Kassy Zandt coming first in the same age group for evening wear.

Port Douglas designer Karlie Jay won best surfwear designs and another Cairns State High student, Imogen Gilchrist, topped all comers in the tropical resort wear designs contest.
