Green Island is one of the reef's most spectacular coral cays.

The tiny cay, 30km off the coast of Cairns was formed around 6000 years ago.

Covering only 12 hectares in area, the island is home to a plethora of animal, marine and birdlife found only Far North Queensland.

It is the only coral cay on the Great Barrier Reef with rainforest growing on it, making it a unique destinations for visitors to the north.

The Cairns island features a world-class resort, some of the best snorkelling and scuba diving on the reef, the world's first underwater observatory, helicopter rides (pictured), Marineland Melanesia (home of the world's largest captive crocodile, Cassius), bushwalking and glass bottom boat tours.

Another unique attractions is the seawalking tours, which allow visitors to walk on the bottom of the reef floor without even getting their hair wet!

Cairns tours leave daily to Green Island and are relatively cheap.
