Cops bust drug lab
Police swooped on an alleged drug lab at Euramo near Tully on Thursday, seizing glassware, drugs and alleged methylamphetamine ingredients.
Officers forced their way into the home, south of Cairns, after a man and a woman allegedly tried to lock them out.
Euramo’s Kenneth James Files, 41, faced Innisfail Magistrates’ Court yesterday morning charged with producing methylamphetamine, possessing property used in a crime, possessing a drug utensil, failing to take reasonable care of a syringe and obstructing police.
Mr Files did not enter a plea and did not apply for bail. He was remanded in custody until his next court appearance on Monday.
Tully police arrested him on Thursday afternoon after going to the Euramo home with a search warrant.
They will allege Mr Files was found locked in the bathroom attempting to smash glassware, and that the stove was found switched on and chemicals were found on a bench in the laundry.
Police guarded the highway-side home overnight and stayed there until Brisbane drug squad experts arrived at noon yesterday. Innisfail Police District Insp David Tucker said no amphetamines had been found at the house.
But "a quantity" of glassware and chemicals had been seized and taken to Brisbane for further analysis.
Insp Tucker declined to comment on the ingredients.
Drug squad experts spent more than two hours at the home yesterday afternoon, searching everything from rooms to the garbage bin outside.
