It is home to over 1500 magnificent tropical butterflies, all local to the area, including the electric blue Ulysses butterfly and the largest butterfly in Australia, the Cairns Birdwing.
Their amazing aerial dancing and penchant for landing on brightly coloured clothes makes the sanctuary a delight for the old and young alike.
The Australian Butterfly Sanctuary is situated in the heart of Kuranda Village, around half an hour's drive from Cairns City.
Kuranda is a small village in the middle of the rainforest, famous for its natural wonders including the fantastic Barron Gorge.
