THE Far North's newest motorcycle club, the Patriots, is fast gathering pace.

Following a story in The Weekend Post on April 12, their website had many hits.

Patriots Australia Cairns Chapter president David Roberts said it was poised to gain 12 new members on top of the founding seven.

"We've had a great response and the feedback has been all positive," he said.

They are also taking part in their first official function. The chapter has been invited to lay a wreath at the Battle of the Coral Sea Commemorations at Cardwell tomorrow.

The family-orientated club has been established for former and serving Australian Defence Force personnel.

Mr Roberts said the purpose of the chapter was to provide an organisation dedicated to members and their families with a common interest in motorcycles.

Other purposes included having members throughout the country to provide a social camaraderie for serving and ex-serving members of the ADF and to generate interest between members of the club in providing support to charitable organisations.

The chapter meets at the Cairns RSL Club on Monday at 6.30pm. To find out more go to www.patriots-australia.com.
