The sleepy resort town of Port Douglas is one of the region's most popular tourist attractions.
Offering some of North Queensland's best luxury accommodation, restaurants and shopping, Port Douglas is a mecca for travellers visiting the Cairns region.
Located around an hour's drive north of Cairns, the town is the gateway to many of the region's best loved natural attractions, including The Great Barrier Reef, Mossman Gorge and the Daintree Rainforest.
The Port Douglas Sunday Markets are some of the regions most popular and the main street, Macrossan Street, is lined with boutique stores featuring everything from home wares, swimsuits, clothing and souvenir items.
Macrossan Street also features a great selection of Port Douglas restaurants, bars and cafes, so finding a bite to eat will never be a problem - the only drama will be the massive choice of options!
One of the main reasons Port Douglas has become so popular with tourists is that it features a large chunk of the region's best hotels, resorts and day spas set along the picturesque Four Mile Beach.
But if you don't want to break the bank, there are plenty of low budget options and Port Douglas backpackers accommodation in the town as well.
Despite its status as an international tourist icon, Port Douglas has managed to retain much of the sleepy village charm that drew people to the town in the first place.
For this reason, it continues to be one of Queensland's most popular getaways for movie, sports and music stars trying to escape the hustle and bustle of the city.
So whatever your reason to visit Port, make sure you set aside a few days of your North Queensland trip to take in the sites and sounds of this tropical paradise - you will no be disappointed.
