NORTHERN Pride has moved to shore up its depleted playing stocks with centre Jamie Frizzo making his training debut last night.
The injury-ravaged pack is set to get a boost, too, with coach Andrew Dunemann confirming he had made an offer to a second-rower after season-ending injuries to Ryan Bartlett and Joel Reithmuller.
"All things being well, we’ll have a second-rower on board tomorrow," he said last night.
Frizzo has been signed from Cairns District Rugby League club Ivanhoes but the Far Northern product had not gone unnoticed by Pride officials.
Dunemann first tried to sign the centre last year from the NQ Young Guns.
But the former St Augustine’s student, who with cousins Nate and Callan Myles and Bartlett was signed by Canterbury straight out of school, was sick of rugby league.
"He was out of love with the game, I think," Dunemann said. "Obviously he’s got that passion back now."
Frizzo decided to return to the fray about a month ago, turning up to Ivanhoes, where Callan Myles also plays, to ask coach Billy Beard for a run.
While he has told Dunemann he is "a long way off" yet, he impressed the Pride coach who watched him in the Knights’ CDRL win against Mareeba on Sunday.
"He think he’s a long way off but some of the touches he had at the weekend (were quality)," Dunemann said.
