Earthy Experience
There are works that make the heart ache for authentic, organic experience.
With Trupperbäumer’s works, inspired by the past and brought into physical being in the present, in their states of light and shadow they exist as a doppelganger effect with their real and cast impression characterising the continuity between times and experience.
This seamless journey for the viewer, between the pieces and their inspiration, between the audience and the intimate constructions of the artist’s hands and creativity, his experience and memories, is the essence of this exhibition’s appeal.
A time and place foreign to its current locale is evoked with a strong degree of familiarity through the eloquent and unpretentious recollections the artist shares in Friends of my Kaleidoscopic Youth.
Revealing a world fragmented made whole again through the distilling of many lives through a singular empathy, the many grains, hues and distressed aspects of his wooden media capture the impact and diversity of the people he remembers, where perspective defines significance.
Tent in my Garden (Bronze) and Tent in my Garden (Wood – Albiza toona) both show the ingenuity and resilience of human nature and the natural state when they are given room to flourish.
Common to the pieces here, Trupperbäumer balances a sense of proportion and integrity, not just in terms of construction but in allowing the media and the piece an unfettered voice within the parameters of
his purpose, manifesting in an elegant equilibrium.
Vlotho an der Weser explores artistry in the pragmatic, with the artist’s understanding and appreciation of the skills that articulated and the pride that transformed everyday activities and items into intensely personal expressions recognisable by others, intricately conveyed.
Little Dwellings hearths that questing with its earthy comforts and the exhibit closes May 25.
