Vicious crimes rock city
A MAN was allegedly knocked unconscious in a vicious street brawl and another attacked with a star picket in a spate of violent assaults across Cairns.
In a shocking weekend of crime, police are also investigating the alleged rape of a 20-year-old woman at a city hotel early Saturday morning.
Police said on Friday morning two men were allegedly punched in the head and then kicked in an incident on Shields St.
The alleged assault took place after the two men and a woman were confronted by three others while walking along Grafton St.
Three men aged 19, 21, and 16 were arrested a short time later.
The next morning in Manoora, an 18-year-old man was allegedly struck in the head several times and knocked unconscious during a brawl involving up to 30 youths.
The melee occurred in Murray St about 4am and the injured man was taken to Cairns Base Hospital.
A 17-year-old man has since been charged with grievous bodily harm.
Police said on the same day a woman, 20, reported being raped at a city hotel.
The alleged offender was described as Caucasian, 190cm tall, with a solid build and brown hair.The Cairns Post was yesterday contacted about another violent assault at Trinity Park on Saturday night.
A man claimed a 22-year-old was hit with a star picket when a "gang" gate crashed a small party in an open field.
The man said he was at the "gathering" at Bluewater Estate on Saturday night when an argument started amid claims a teen had stolen a drink.
He said the teen later came back with a group of about 30 others and a 22-year-old man at the party was struck in
