Powerful: AC Cobra replicas feature mighty V8 engines.
The owners of American muscle cars converged earlier this month for the 11th annual Kurrimine Beach Cruise.
THEY travelled from Cairns and Townsville for the three-day event held in the grounds of the King Reef Resort Hotel and Van Park.
Publican David Copland said while numbers were down on the previous year, more than 20 cars lined up, representing muscle car and custom hot rod clubs from both cities.
It is the 11th time the hotel has hosted the event. The vehicles went on show on Sunday, May 18, with the People's Choice winner a 1932 Ford while the Publican's Choice, chosen by Mr Copland and his business partner Bruce Hore, went to a 1947 Oldsmobile.
The day was boosted by more than 100 motorcyclist enthusiasts from the Cape York Chapter of the Harley Owners Group (HOG) and those on the Wayne Leonard hospital fundraising ride.
"We put on a band and a great time was had by all,'' Mr Copland said. "The old fellas loved the cars as much as the young blokes,'' he said.
Tomorrow the Ellis Beach Bar and Grill is hosting its first Big Boys Toys Day.
Owners of hot cars, boats, trucks and motorbikes are invited to take part from 10am to 2pm. There will be live music as well as hot and cold drinks and hot food.
