More than just a band
Angles by Dan Le Sac & Scroobius Pip (Sunday Best)
From the guys who gave you the lyrical and profoundly rapped single Thou shalt always kill – you know; the one that got over played on the radio and has the line ‘... just a band’.
You either loved it or hated it. In the album Dan le Sac gives you techno-esk mixes while the UK Essex-boy, bearded Scroobius Pip lays down the lyrical poetry.
Pip’s political and observational views that have come from his ‘poetry slam’ work quite well alongside the methodical background beats from Dan.
Some important messages are pushed throughout the album – mankind, theft, self-harm – and their unique and sometimes humorous style makes you listen-up.
Clever lyrics and sharp mixes along side some well known samples (Radiohead and Dizzee Rascal) make you coming back for more.
If I had to compare it to anything, I would say it reminds me of the talented Mike Skinner AKA The Streets - Original Pirate material from 2002.
In a nut shell: Passionate and clever rap / hip-hop and funked up beats with imagination. Anyone who can rap about the periodical table has to be worth a listen. Repeat a few times and it will grow on you hopefully, just as it has me.
