THE Northern Pride has secured another signing coup, with Atherton product and Papua New Guinea international Rodney Griffin to play for the Queensland Cup powerhouse for the rest of the season.

The lock gained a release from the Wests Tigers to return home to family in the Far North and will arrive in Cairns this week.

Pride coach Andrew Dunemann said he was excited about Griffin's signing.

"It's a real coup for the club to get Rodney on board," he said.

"I know that Kumuls coach Adrian Lam has a huge wrap on him as well as (Pride chief executive) Denis (Keeffe) and (marketing manager) Brad (Tassell) who watched him play in the PNG Origin game last year.

"Rodney is really keen to get back home and play for the Pride and we are very excited about having him in the squad.

"He not only gives us a lot of depth in the forward pack, but also plenty of experience having played Test match footy."

"He is still only very young, has enormous potential and could still play at the highest level in the NRL."

The Pride have struggled with the loss of players to injury and NRL promotion midway through their debut season.

But the signing of Griffin, as well as centre Jamie Frizzo and former Gold Coast Titans forward Chris Afamasaga last month, adds considerable depth to the side.
