A CAIRNS student's life has been made so miserable by bullies he has threatened to kill himself.
The boy’s mother, who asked to be called Mary and her son Scott, told The Cairns Post that constant harassment and humiliation at Gordonvale High School had led to her only child telling her it was the only way out.
"That broke my heart," Mary said.
"But there is no way I am going let my son commit suicide over
bullying.
"This has got way out of hand. The school is not doing enough. It has got to stop."
Scott and his mum told their story just days after shocking internet video footage emerged of a teenager being bashed and kicked while more than 20 Malanda State High School students looked on.
And only yesterday The Cairns Post revealed damning Education Queensland statistics that showed more than 2040 students had been suspended or expelled for physical misconduct in the past two financial years.
Mary said Scott had buckled after five months of hell where he had regularly had his pants pulled to his ankles in front of classmates, been called obscene names that deeply hurt him as well as having fun made out of his physical appearance.
She said what had been started by one boy had been imitated by many other students who had also started picking on Scott.
In a last resort to get the school to take action, Mary said she had reluctantly sought police advice on possible charges.
"I spoke to the principals and they got my son and the main offender together," she said.
"It was hopeless ... the bullying started again as they walked out the door. He should be expelled."
Mary said Scott was undergoing counselling, which was helping but was not the solution to what was a wider problem at the school.
"I heard one principal say that 80 per cent of the grade 8s are being bullied," she said.
The distraught mum said it was heartbreaking to see the effect the bullying was having on her son and said she had come forward to highlight how damaging it was.
Gordonvale High School did not return calls yesterday.
