Indigenous art exhibition
Indigenous artists of the region join forces to illustrate the beauty of their culture, where art is an essential part of life, not a luxury to be overlooked.
This exhibition will be open for viewing right up until the all-day NAIDOC Celebration event, Saturday, July 12, also at Tanks Arts Centre.
The aim of Tanks’ NAIDOC program is to celebrate the survival of Indigenous culture and the Indigenous contribution to modern Australia, and to provide an inclusive occasion for all Far North Queensland’s Indigenous artists and viewers to share, communicate ideals, knowledge, skills and experiences.
This exhibition involves a number of indigenous artists of the region from established names such as Arone Meeks, through to emerging talents such as Daphne Anibia, Margaret de Jersy, Napoleon Oui, Eva Wanganeen and the artists from Tanks indigenous residency program last month.
The exhibition runs from June 19th until Saturday 12th July, when a day long NAIDOC celebration will include a Welcome to Country by a traditional owner, a smoking ceremony, Indigenous arts and craft market stalls and Torres Strait Islander food stall, and an evening’s concert performance by well known music acts of the region including Black Image, Zennith and Barry Cedric.
The NAIDOC Gallery Exhibition will be in Tank 4 at Tanks Arts Centre from June 19 to July 12 and is open from Monday to Friday, 9am-4.30pm. Entry is free.
