Glitz, glamour, Gucci & girls
Glitz by Louise Bagshawe (Headline Review)
Bagshawe returns with another highly polished modern romantic novel with enough references to Jimmy Choo, Prada, Louis Viutton, Gucci and other luxury brands to keep even the most dedicated fashionista happy.
The four Chambers cousins – Juno, Athena, Diana and Venus – are very wealthy ‘it’ girls around London.
Yes, they’re all named for classical Greek and Roman goddesses, and like their namesakes live in a rarefied world where their wish is everyone’s command.
Their millions, however, come from their reclusive, and quite creepy, uncle Clement.
Who has been giving them cash since they turned 15. But something is about to change in the girls’ world.
Clement is getting married and he’s threatening to cut them off.
Although they generally despise each other, the Chambers cousins have to pull together to save their money and their lifestyles.
As with most quality ‘chick lit’, Glitz is a satisfactory read with the women coming out on top, but the plot is not bad.
The four girls do a bit of soul-searching, fall in love and generally become better people by the end of the novel.
This isn’t literature, but it is a great, easy read. If you like Sex and the City, you’ll love this one.
Verdict: Perfect example of modern romantic comedy; would make a fabulous film.
