Bragging rights in derby win
PENINSULA put the fun aside to secure a rewarding win over North West in its final match at the Queensland Primary School Netball Championships in Cairns yesterday.
The traditional rivals fought a bruising encounter that Peninsula won 22-15 to secure 10th place overall out of the 12 teams in the championships.
Peninsula regional school sport officer Jo Butland said the local girls were determined to finish on a high.

"I think they put the fun aside for a little bit and outmuscled them," she said.
"It was a good match and there were lots of tired bodies on the netball court."
South-east Queensland sides dominated the championships, with South Coast finishing first ahead of Metropolitan East and Sunshine Coast.
"We’re traditionally not strong in this age group in netball because the south east corner, their competition from week to week is much larger and much harder and faster.
"I think most Peninsula teams aim to win at least two or three matches a tournament and as long as we’re developing their skills hopefully we can give then a pathway for their future years."
