Holden makes its marque
REV heads and motoring enthusiasts descended on the Cairns Showground yesterday to witness the international show debut of a locally owned $920,000 Holden.
The heavily modified Monaro was the star of the third annual All Holden Day, which for the first time also invited General Motor vehicles owners to join in the fun.

But among the almost 80 vehicles ranging from FJ to HQ Holdens and an array of later model vehicles, the Monaro bought by a Cairns construction industry identity known only as "Chooka" earlier this year, was the highlight for many of the estimated 2500 people who went through the gates.
"It is one of only two that Holden produced and the only one privately owned," North Queensland Holden Club president Peter Thompson said.
"It is fantastic, it's a top vehicle, Chooka took me for a run in it."
But it wasn't all about rare million dollar muscle cars.
"There were plenty of Toranas, especially hatches, which are getting rare," Mr Thompson said.
Alongside less exotic Monaros than Chooka's and HDT Commodores there were GM-powered Chevy Corvettes and Trans Ams.
A GM-powered fire truck also put in an appearance while local car racing identity Peter Roggenkamp oversaw tarmac events.
"That value added and allowed enthusiasts to show off their vehicles in a controlled and safe environment," Mr Thompson said.
Co-organiser Tracy Thompson said while the event had been a great success what had been particularly pleasing had been an increase in numbers despite a move from Munro Martin Park where passing traffic had added to the patronage of the show in previous years.
