Special attractions for resort residents
A TAI chi terrace, teppanyaki bars and a fully equipped handyman workshop are just some of the inclusive features residents of the Savannah Lifestyle Resort project at Mareeba will be able to enjoy.
The $100 million master planned resort community for the active over 50's is expected to be completed within four years.
About 150 people attended the public launch of the project at the Mareeba Bowls Club on last week where the developers outlined designs, details and costings of the project.
Director Noel Mewett has developed over 50's lifestyle communities including the Gold Coast's Golden Crest Manors, and has teamed up with local co-directors and joint owners Carlo Amerio (architect), Serg Battistin (construction) and Michael Piagno (sales and marketing).
"Australia wide, similar projects are outselling retirement villages by five to one,'' Mr Mewett said.
"It's a luxurious, active and friendly environment and we will achieve a benchmark in North Queensland with the Savannah Lifestyle Resort.
"So far we have received extremely positive support from the regional council and the greater community here.''
When complete, the gated community will comprise 170 residences of two and three-bedroom homes built to nine different architectural designs to provide diversity within the streetscape.
It incorporates a clubhouse featuring a cinema and entertainment lounges, a business centre with a modern library and high speed internet access.
Mr Piagno said the resort community was aimed squarely at people who were active, fun and having the time of their lives.
"We want people to enjoy the lifestyle they have worked so hard for, so the resort is pet friendly and children are welcome to visit their grandparents,'' Mr Piagno said.
"We also know recreation and travel make up a large part of the retirement of our target audience, so we will offer a low cost off-site secure storage area for caravans, RV`s, boats and trailers.''
The Savannah Lifestyle Resorts' has a model where residents pay no body corporate fees, deferred management fees, stamp duty, council rates or exit fees.
Residents own tenure over their homes but not the actual land.
A weekly site fee covers land lease and maintenance is handled by onsite management.
Pensioners are eligible to receive rental assistance towards the weekly site fee and government legislation protects the investment under a leasehold agreement.
Architecturally designed residences within the Anzac Avenue gated community start at $320,000.
