STAFF at Ray White Cairns Central and Cairns South offices joined forces for a surprise party to celebrate principal Angela Capitanio's 21 years in the industry.

Ms Capitanio started her real estate career with Ray White on Spence Street back in 1987 after 24 years out of the workforce raising a family.

Later she started Ray White Cairns Central and then bought Ray White at Gordonvale and relocated its office to Edmonton.

In the late '80s Australia's property market was flat after the stock exchange crash and selling property in hard times helped in the long run.

"It was a good time to come into the market because I could learn,'' she told The Cairns Post.

"I got my first contract on my third day.''

Ms Capitanio said the Cairns property market had changed considerably.

"Twenty one years ago you didn't have the suburbs or the northern or southern extremes of Cairns that you do now,'' she said.

"Now you have those cane farms which have been sold for sub-division.''

Sales manager Keith Masotto who has worked with Ms Capitanio for years praised her excellent work ethic.

"Her dedication, work ethics, marketing and negotiation skills and her attitude and focus, plus always training and keeping up with new technology, sets a great example,'' he said.

"She is a great believer in delivering the best result possible and is a true Olympian of the industry.''

During her career Ms Capitanio has won many awards including top selling salesperson for the Queensland Ray White Group.

Other awards have included top selling principal, REIQ awards for excellence for Cairns and Queensland, and induction to the Cairns REIQ Hall of Fame as well as a winner of the Ray White Group's 'Max White' award.

Cairns Post general manager Nick Trompf, who attended Ms Capitanio's party said her efforts and professionalism were a lesson to all.
