SINGER and former James Bond girl Grace Jones jet-setted into Cairns yesterday afternoon flanked by security entourage.

The singer who had hits in the 1970s, ’80s and known for her dance club music, arrived at the gate exit in a buggy and was covered in black attire with a scarf covering her face and a tartan cap as she lit a cigarette before getting into an awaiting limousine.

"I’m very tired," the singer said as she walked to the limousine where she was whisked away to Mission Beach for a resort launch locals are dubbing the party of the year.

Jones arrived with an entourage including her mother and brother.

Actor Alex Dimitriades and fashion designers Peter Morrissey and Bettina Liano are among the A-list expected to arrive at the newly named Elandra resort today among a bevvy of performers and socialites.

The Horizon at Mission Beach will reopen in the rainforest above South Mission Beach tonight with a exclusive Safari meets the Sea party that has lured 300 guests from interstate and overseas and several hundred more from the Far North.

Jones, who is rumoured to be staying for a week with a limousine at her service 24 hours a day, is singing at the opening.

Australian TV personality Sonia Kruger will be MC for the night.

Elandra staff yesterday described a "huge buzz" at the hilltop resort, which overlooks the ocean and Dunk Island and has recently undergone an $18 million revamp.

Under wraps: Singer Grace Jones boards a helicopter bound for Mission Beach yesterday to sing at the opening of a major resort.
