THESE nurses have travelled from all over the world to work in Cairns and now they are here it is not going to be hard to get them to stay.

Despite a global shortage of medical professionals, it is clear the Far North has an advantage over its competitors when it comes to recruitment.

"I love living in Cairns due to the great climate and the laid-back atmosphere which provides a great way of life," said Anna Hope, who left her native England 18 months ago to work in the orthopedic unit at Cairns Private Hospital.

"As a keen white water rafter and diver, neither of which you can do in my home town of Lester, living in the Far North provides lots of opportunities to enjoy these outdoor pursuits."

Management and staff at Cairns Private yesterday joined the growing band of locals supporting the Why We Love It Here tourism campaign.

Launched by The Cairns Post to help the tourism industry fight back after the Qantas cuts, it gives locals the chance to tell the world what’s great about the region by posting comments and photos on the cairns.com.au website.

Ms Hope’s Burmese colleague, operating theatre nurse Theingie Han, said: "I love living in Cairns due to its natural beauty from the rainforests to the reef."

Surgical nurse Ryan Saycon, who is originally from the Philippines, said he loved living here because of "the tropical climate".
