Child porn arrests
TWO more Far Northern men have been arrested as part of an international police investigation on child pornography.
A 20-year-old Cairns man and a 58-year-old Innisfail man are expected to face court this month for possession of child exploitation material.
A joint investigation between the Queensland Police Service and the Australian Federal Police has so far nabbed more than 60 people in Queensland, including teachers and blue card holders.
The Queensland part of the investigation, codenamed Operation Golf Cortex, was launched in April and targeted internet users who had accessed and downloaded child porn from a European website.
Names of 11 alleged offenders were released early last month, including two Far Northern men.
Police Commissioner Bob Atkinson said the Queensland arrests were part of an international operation
involving 170 countries.
"The operation once again highlights the effectiveness of law enforcement agencies working together to identify those who seek to abuse and exploit children," Mr Atkinson said.
"The variety of occupations of offenders charged during this operation illustrates the fact that offenders have come from all spectrums of society."
Cairns Magistrates’ Court yesterday heard a Fishery Falls man, arrested in relation to the child porn investigation, intended to plead guilty.
Barrister James Sheridan appeared on behalf of Leonard Michael Parisi, 52, who is charged with using a carriage service for child pornography and possessing child exploitation material.
Mr Sheridan said his client intended to plead guilty to the charges and wanted the matter to proceed directly to the District Court.
Commonwealth prosecutor Greg Williams told the court evidence against Parisi was still being
gathered.
It is believed four computer hard drives were seized from the Mr Parisi and are to be examined by police.
The case will be mentioned again on September 24.
