I miss Cairns so much!
Posted by: Gretchen from West Melbourne, formerly of Machans Beach, Cairns, Queensland, Australia
After living there for my whole life, I've moved to Melbourne for work and now actually believe "You don't appreciate what you've got 'til it's gone!"
I've always lived at the Northern Beaches or in the beautiful rainforest at Edge Hill and nothing anywhere else in the world compares to living in Cairns.
I miss the heat, I miss the palm trees, I miss the unbelievable downpours of rain, I miss the friendly people, I miss only being in traffic for 15 mins on the way to work.
I miss those 'postcard' days at Port Douglas, I miss the yummy food from restaurants along the Esplanande, I miss only having to put on a singlet and thongs.
I miss the affordability, I miss the long lunches and Sunday family BBQ's, I miss people envying where I live!
People travel from all over the world to snorkle on the reef, to walk through the rainforest and to experience the tropical and relaxed lifestyle; and it's all right there for us!
Why would you go on holiday when you live in Cairns?
I can't wait to come back ... 'cause there's no place like home!

Gretchen misses her Machans Beach home, north of Cairns, where she took this photo from her balcony at 6am. She wasn't even cranky to be up that early since the view was worth it.
