Loved Cairns so much, I moved there
Posted by: Mark Firgaira from Geelong, Victoria who loved his holiday in Cairns, Queensland, Australia
Like so many I ventured here for a holiday in 2003 after the best 10 days ever I moved to Cairns three months later.
After coming from Geelong I fell in love with the laid back care free attitude of locals very warm friendly and genuine.
I love Green Island day trips with friends , I love Palm Cove for breakfast on a Sunday, I love the esplanade for the evening walk as the bats are in all their glory, I love dinner on a Friday night at Villa Romana.
I love Gilligans for drinks and a night of dancing, I love the crown hotel for state of origin, I love shennanigans for friday night 2 4 1.
I love the weather - oh so nice and warm all year round and nothing more refreshing than a nice storm to roll in and sit out the front with the lights out watching the sky light up.
I love the Kuranda range, I love funky little Edge Hill for coffee, I love the markets in Port Douglas on a sunday, I love swimming in Mossman Gorge, I love green tree frogs, I love Cape Tribulation.
I love the fishing on the reef, I love how pluggers and shorts is a Cairns uniform all year around.
I love how I now finish all my sentaces with AY, I love the friends I have made.
I am back in Geelong now and have been since March its cold and wet and I think about Cairns every single day.
My heart is still in Cairns. I ventured back as I met a beautiful girl in the lovely Port Douglas and we have returned while she is finishing her studies and a good excuse for me to see the family but we will return.
Even writing this it stirs me up inside as I miss Cairns so bad. I will return and as the old saying goes "you don't know what you have until its gone" is so so so true.
I thank Cairns for the best 5 years of my life and for a beautiful girlfriend.
And yes we will be returning real soon as I have said it is freezing in Geelong.
I laugh as when I moved back I did not even own a jumper ... God, I miss Cairns ...
