Snake's taste for toy

SNAKE massages are not usually part of Adrian Walker's repertoire.

But how else do you deal with an unhappy 2.8m python with a fishing rod dangling from its mouth after swallowing a plastic mouse attached to the pole?

The Mission Beach snake handler arrived at the home of Laurie and Peter Trott to find an amethystine python caught hook, line and sinker on the back veranda.

"It had swallowed a kitten’s toy, a plastic mouse attached to fishing line and a rod, and the line was still hanging out of its mouth," Mr Walker said.

"There was a large lump right down near its tail."

Mr Walker and Mission Beach teenager Ryland Smith broke off the fishing line and began a 10-minute massage on the "sick-looking" snake to try to dislodge the mouse.

"When it finally popped out, the python still didn’t want to let it go and we had to prise the mouse out for it," Mr Walker said,

The incident comes weeks after Mr Walker released a python suspended a metre off the ground after it swallowed a kitten that had been playing in mosquito netting attached to a ceiling.
