Challenge to bare all
A MOSSMAN nudist resort has issued a cheeky invitation to the Esplanade's topless bathing belles.
As controversy over goggle-eyed male reaction to semi-clad sunseekers keen to avoid tan lines continues to rage, White Cockatoo Motel owner Tony Fox called for women to mark October 1 in their diaries.
On that date, the resort will undergo its annual transformation from regular family accommodation to secluded clothes-off retreat.
With an all-nude level playing field and a strict no-camera rule until May "they can get it all off", a cheerful Mr Fox told The Cairns Post.
"No cameras, no pervs."
There was "a time and a place" for clothes-free tanning, Mr Fox said.
"I'm not a prude," he said. "I own a nudist resort.
"I've got nothing against girls going topless.
"But if you're topless in public, you're going to attract perverts.
"That's the world we live in."
By contrast, nudity in a private environment, was "safe, comfortable, without the pervert element", Mr Fox said.
"After five minutes you don't even realise everyone's nude.
"It's great for everybody's confidence.
"Everybody realises the models in magazines aren't the reality."
Between May and October, the motel, in the centre of the sleepy cane town 75km north of Cairns, operates as a conventional, fully-clothed family resort. But between October and May each year, Mr Fox takes advantage of a lull in tourist visits and rising tropical temperatures to transform the premises into a secluded clothes-off retreat.
"It's a great time of year to be nude," he said.
