Daring Journey
A scene from End Of The Spear.
End of the Spear is based on a true story and the filmmakers are donating half of the profits back to the native tribes of South America.
Their goal was not to make money, but to tell this story.
End of the Spear chronicles an event that happened in the 1950s and made headlines around the world. In the Amazonian jungles of Ecuador there lived a deadly tribe, the Waodani.
chronicles an event that happened in the 1950s and made headlines around the world. In the Amazonian jungles of Ecuador there lived a deadly tribe, the Waodani. With only a 10 per cent chance of living past the age of 35, the Waodani had cut off all contact with the outside world and they killed anyone who came near them.
They valued the rights of the individual to the extreme, and if someone angered them, they killed.
When a child escaped and told of what life was like in the tribe, five missionaries decided, out of compassion, to bring the gospel of peace and love to the Waodoni.
But when the missionaries, Nate Saint, Ed McCully, Pete Fleming, Roger Youderian and Jim Elliot, try to make friends, the Waodani kill them.
The testimony of the missionaries, who refused to kill the tribesmen in self-defence, and the testimony of their wives, who cared for the Waodani’s enemies when they were dying of polio, showed the Waodani something they hadn’t seen before – mercy, forgiveness, hope and a purpose to life.
The film raises money for Harald House. Tickets are $15 each, with $5 from each ticket going to Harald House.
End of The Spear is rated PG and screening at BCC Cairns Central, Sunday, July 13 at 2pm.
