Vince 0'Flaherty from Bayview Heights tells us why he has such a passion for the Cairns region...

Having lived in the Cairns region for over 22 years, my passion for the region has never waned.

From the Daintree to the Great Barrier Reef, Cape York and the Tropical Tablelands, we have the best of everything here.

In the last couple of weeks alone the abundance of wildlife I witnessed included crocodiles on the Daintree river and along the Captain Cook Highway from the Mowbray river bridge south of Port Douglas.

An early morning cruise along the Daintree with Ian Worchester this week was breathtaking, from the misty view over the river to the top of Thornton Peak and the sounds the birdlife was music to the ears.

A chance sighting of a cassowary at a creek crossing near Mason's Store at Cape Tribulation was a real delight.

The amazing bird just went about its chores of cleaning itself in close range of the roadway without a care in the world about the traffic jam it was causing with amazed visitors appreciating the spectacle.

Nature is natural and does not require slogans to be "with-it" to keep in vogue with the marketing gurus down south.

Cairns is not tired, nature is never tired, time to get out of the spas and get back to the real nature that surrounds Cairns region.
